I was raised by a single parent. My mother had a stroke when I was 14 years old, which left her paralysed. She could not speak or teach me how to cook. I was making chilli then. When I became a single parent of five children, I perfected it. People would come over to the house and ask, What's for dinner? When I said chilli, they would say I don't like chilli. After giving them a sample, they were in their fifth bowl, and I would respond, I thought you didn't like chilli. That's when I knew I had something!
